Lecture ‘Consistent measurements throughout the seed value chain’

In the life of a seedling, there are many players involved. Breeders try to find the best type of seed, seed-suppliers create as many seeds as possible, and propagators bring these seeds to a small plant. Every one of these organizations counts the plants (germination) and sees what the usable plant count (UPC) is. However, manual counting of UPC is very subjective, and this can be problematic in communication between breeders, seed-suppliers and propagators. In this lecture we look into the future, and look at possible opportunities to smoothen these conversations with the help of computer vision and AI, and create an automated consistent measurement of seedlings. With a system that can be used throughout the whole seed value chain.
