About Acoustofab
Acoustofab: Precision Separation for the Future of Seed Technology
At Acoustofab, we specialise in advanced sorting technologies with a core focus on acoustic-based systems. Our mission is to revolutionise the way materials – especially seeds – are sorted using ultrasonic ejection technology.
Rooted in acoustic engineering and materials science, Acoustofab has developed a patented technology suite that uses focused sound waves to perform the separation step in optical sorting systems. Unlike traditional methods, our acoustic sorting technology eliminates the need for compressed air, reducing operating costs by up to 10x compared to pneumatic air-jet systems.
Seed Sorting Reimagined
Seed quality is vital across the agricultural value chain. Whether it’s for breeding programmes, commercial production, or research trials, consistent and accurate seed sorting can dramatically affect germination rates, crop performance, and economic return. Acoustofab’s acoustic sorting systems offer a powerful, scalable solution to these challenges.
Our seed separation platform uses an array of individually controlled ultrasonic speakers. By precisely timing the signals, high-pressure focal points of sound energy can be generated anywhere in an operating volume above the array. When directed at small objects like seeds, these points exert a pushing force, enabling ejection similar to pneumatic jets but at a fraction of the cost per-ejection.
In addition to low running costs and high precision, our technology is quiet (ultrasound is inaudible to humans) and highly flexible in its positioning within the wider sorting system due to its wide operating range. It has no moving parts, minimising clogging and maintenance . It supports up to 10,000 updates per second for fast, responsive separation.
Scalable, Flexible, and Intelligent
Acoustofab’s sorting systems are modular and can be adapted for small-scale lab settings or industrial-grade production lines. They across a range of industries by companies who value precision, data, and performance.
Beyond binary sorting (accept/reject), our systems can grade seeds into multiple quality categories by modulating the amount of acoustic force delivered to different categories of object. This multi-tier classification is particularly valuable in separating different seed fractions from a mixed population in a single sorting pass.
We are also applying our acoustic technology to enable the levitation of seeds, allowing them to be suspended mid-air for non-contact, full 3D inspection. This innovative approach means quality assurance can be performed from all angles without physical handling, enabling more accurate assessments of shape, surface defects, and other critical features – all while preserving the integrity of the seed.
Collaboration and Innovation
We believe that acoustic sorting is not just a technology, but a platform for collaboration. At Seed Meets Technology, we are excited to connect with seed professionals, breeders, researchers, and technologists to explore new applications and partnerships. Whether you are seeking to enhance your seed cleaning process, evaluate quality more precisely, or automate manual grading tasks, Acoustofab offers a transformative solution.
